Paul Matisse

Over the past five years,

I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Paul Matisse.

Getting to know Paul and his work has changed me. We’ve shared many long lunches and chats in Paul’s home/workshop/gallery – a beautiful old renovated Church (with a functioning belltower, of course). During those meetings, our conversations wandered through the history of the Musical Fence, Paul’s life, and his wonderful body of sculptural work.

It felt appropriate, then, that he and I came together last Summer to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Paul’s original Musical Fence with a joint artist talk.

It felt appropriate, then, that he and I came together last Summer to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Paul’s original Musical Fence with a joint artist talk.

The talk marked a passing of the baton from his work installing interactive sound sculpture in Greater Boston, to PuMP’s.
